january

i do not particularly love the month of january. it is always hard for me to get back into the swing of things after months of fall and holiday excitement. we had such a busy and special christmas break this year. it seems to be taking even longer to get back to the normalcy of everyday life in 2012. and what was were my new year's resolution resolutions? to stop worrying about the things i can't control. to let wil and em do a little more for themselves with a little less of me doing everything for them. to be grateful for every day. i'm a bit discouraged because i'm finding that these resolutions are going to take baby steps...and more discipline than i thought. i'm trying not to be discontent with the month of january. i enjoyed a slow, rainy saturday today. finally a chance to sit down and post something while i wasn't in a hurry....and decompress after the failed attempt at a homemade chocolate cake. it was good, just not pretty.

so, on this slow, rainy saturday in january, here are some things that i am enjoying, thinking about for spring, and recommending right now.

this is one of my latest obsessions. i mentioned it in our last post after we visited the shop on new year's eve. the atmosphere is what i want my home to feel like. the owner is adorable. looking forward to going to a tasting soon. read about it here.

a new nail polish. essie's brooch the subject.
i picture it with a transitional outfit during the next few months. something neutral with something fresh for spring, like this.

i just started using this product and it has been great for dry hair during the winter months. and i can actually go longer between hair washings now, which is huge for me. it's not a new product, i just hadn't tried it yet. i love the light version.

another product that is not new, but new to me. nars, the multiple. i tried my sister's in new york and loved it. it is on my list for spring. or now.

and last, we enjoyed a birthday dinner at the lake with gk tonight. here's the cake.
em decorated it with a few toothpicks and mints because we forgot the candles. happy birthday gk!
