the complement of red...

a lot of the things i have noticed this week are green. a few are on my list for fall and some are just pretty home things i have seen. so here are some photos and random things for a friday.

these are a fall must-have. will be great for school. cute with sandals, toms, or boots in october. spotted here.

thought this bathtub was extra fresh.

this cardigan! (and of course the blue necklace.)

i'm really not a window treatment person. i do love these though. and that elephant table! we found one similar to this at the antique mall and put it behind our sink (we have a big space and it needed something large and out of the ordinary).

and this green chest against these white walls. the rug and chair too.

another fall must-have. i've blogged about the j. crew toothpick pant before. they are my all-time favorite fit from j. crew. the toothpick cord is a fall to spring staple for me. i have collected them in several colors and this mint green is on my list for fall.

kelly wearstler's green blouse. visit her blog here.

these green eyes. a priceless photo to me.

and my favorite coldplay tune to go along with the priceless photo. sweetest lyrics ever.

diy

after our trip to the farmer's market last saturday, i came home and made my own lemon rosemary salt. it needs to "cure" in an air tight container for a month or so before using. however, i did try it out in a marinade for shrimp and in a salad dressing this week and it was sooooo good! i am thinking about making a larger batch of it for christmas gifts this year. here are some photos of my herb salt venture:

first, i picked some fresh rosemary.

next, grated some lemon zest.

mixed my herbs and ingredients in the food processor.

and then stored it in this cute little herb jar. easy peasy lemon squeezy.

aren't these little jars the cutest? they can be found here. they were a birthday gift and perfect for the basil and rosemary salts!

and one more diy project from last weekend. i love containers. found this old drawer at the antique mall and loved the colors and the enamel knob on it. i put a fern and a creeping fig plant in it (i love this little plant. found both of them here.), added some moss and put it on our hall table.

there you go!

daisy mae

we went to the berry farmer's market on saturday morning. i had high expectations because we saw so much at the one last fall. the flowers were spectacular. the herbs absolutely beautiful. but the cows were what caught pb's eye. i gave him the camera and i took a few photos too. gk went with us and she found the funnel cakes. mmmmmm. here is what we saw.

this lady had the prettiest fresh cut flowers. she said that most men do not get her sign...

i bought one of these basil salts. i made my own at home today so more on that to come...

and the cows. pb was smitten.

have a great week.

"who does depression hurt?"

we have had a very full week around here so here are some of the highlights:

1. on monday, we got the idea to make a small brick pathway from our back steps to the yard. it is a small space but needed stepping stones or something. we had a lot of old brick that the previous owner had saved so decided to try it out.

first, we dug up the dirt and tried out some different arrangements for the brick.

then we strategically placed the bricks where we wanted them, filled in the cracks with dirt and packed them down as well as we could. messy and so hot outside.

our finished product.

2. and here is a find i had at the antique mall. an old metal hanger that works perfectly for necklaces.

3. wil learned to iron a shirt yesterday. he has decided that he needs to be wearing nicer shirts and he wants them ironed. we had a lesson. i wish i had photos to share.

4. we also finished hanging all the artwork in our office. we decided to fill the walls with photos and paintings from the baseboard to the trim.

i was the assistant while pb did the hanging. evidently i have a problem with distractions like piniterest when i can see the computer. i was told i would have been fired if i was his real assistant.

5. one of our antique malls has just opened a patio outside and it is full of iron and metal pieces. it was too hot to look for long yesterday, but these are some of the things i spotted.

this metal base (which is upside down) that would be great for a concrete circular table top.

this metal frame. it would be a perfect mirror or headboard, or anything!

the mass of stuff.

and i did come home with these. there were only five but $2.00 for all of them. delicate little vintage champagne flutes or wine glasses.

6. and our dear cat has been walking back to our old house this week. he left a lot of friends over there and there are not any cats around us right now. i think he is lonely. it has been heart wrenching to watch. do cats get depressed?

after 3 trips to go get him, he has finally resigned himself to stay at his new home. maybe he just needed some closure.

have a happy friday!

red, rit dye and rite aid

i've established the fact that i am a "blue" person. but lately, red seems to be a color that i am enjoying a lot of and really drawn to in clothing and home finds. here are a few of the red things i have noticed lately:

first of all, these j brand jeans. obsessed.
i tried to be frugal, creative, and inventive by purchasing enough rit dye for a whole hippie commune, and dye my own old pair of white jeans. (if anyone is interested, the rite aid on maple street has every color. i made pb ride with me there at 10:30 one night a few weeks ago.) it kind of worked. but still not these jeans. they are a fall must have. i had saved my birthday money and finally broke down and ordered them. they are going to go with everything.

this cup. thank you jbp for leaving this treat on my doorstep. i had coffee in it this morning.

and pb is even on the red train trend. he got these sporty shorts from liz for his birthday.

this red polish by essie. clambake.

and i love these red beads (more of a brick red) that my friend, pmh, loaned me to try. i think they are a keeper. would be great with something pink or chartreuse.

and this is wil's room. we found this union jack flag here and hung it behind his bed.

and this latest time consumer.

which you can check out here. this is a black hole!!!!! i tried to join several times but the traffic is so heavy for the site that you have to wait for an invitation. when i got the invite email the other day, you would have thought i won the lottery. this is the kind of stuff i love and could design and play with all day long. i stayed up way too late last night creating boards and looking at other boards. it is a constant work in progress so check out my boards when you are bored (no pun intended, gk).

and last, these are not red things, but just comical photos from life around our house this week. first is our dear cat, pumpkin. not sure what he was doing or how we caught this shot. it looks like the dalai lama should be in the photo somewhere.

and em and i made cow and pig pancakes on the griddle yesterday morning. hilarious but obviously good.

and happy saturday...it is about 15 degrees cooler here today!
