monkey butt

sometimes you make weekend plans and then things happen to those plans. we have been looking forward to spending an evening with some great friends but they had to cancel. everyone was bummed. we will reschedule for another weekend and look forward to seeing them soon!

in the meantime, i had hair day this morning. always a treat. so with our unexpected free afternoon (and my freshly blown out hair), we decided to head to the tractor supply store. i always notice it on 411 when are coming back into rome and wonder what it is like. pb has been numerous times but this was my first trip. i went to get burlap bags. i knew i would love this place. so with no plans and an iphone in hand, we toured this fabulous store. they have everything from lip products, denim shirts, tiny overalls, rain boots and colorful rope to twizzlers.

here are some photos from our adventure...definitely a girl spin on tractor supply, so i am including some boy things too.

and my favorite find.

a bright, sunshiny day

it has been such tease having this nice weather today. friday afternoon, the sun, a little bit warmer...what more can you ask for?

sooooo, a warm color scheme is on my mind. and is evident in some of the art we have been creating this week. here are some happy and heartwarming images from the 4, 5 and 6 years olds i spent time with today.

and i was inspired by an artist i discovered last week. i had fun with various brushstrokes and lines using every type of medium i could find in my classroom.

and this was our dinner inspiration tonight. happy friday!

2 live crew

we spent a rainy night in georgia last night with best friends. i can't think of a better way to enjoy a friday evening in january than with great food, friends, and laughter...and some karaoke.

we had the best mai tais and some spicy appetizers at the pollard home before dinner.

the table was set in festive perfection.

and the atmosphere was so cozy.

we posed a little to document the evening...

we finished dinner on the early side and followed somebody's lead in a few rounds of karaoke. and documented with too many photos here. but a lot of thought was put into song selections.

i do love a microphone and a stage. happy birthday mh!!!

love

yesterday, i had an art lesson with my 3rd grade classes on pop artist, robert indiana. his iconic love painting has always been a favorite of mine. and despite, but supporting, wikipedia's blackout protest yesterday, we were able to find some fun and interesting facts about the artist...

robert indiana's love was originally a commission by moma for a christmas card in 1964. in 1973, it was the first in the u.s. postal service's regular series of "love stamps". and on valentine's day in 2011, indiana created a similar image of love for google, which was displayed that day in place of the search engine site's normal logo. and the artist was born, robert clark. it wasn't until he moved to new york for art school, from his home state of indiana, that he changed his name to robert indiana.

pop art is always a favorite when we take a look at different artists and movements in history. here are a few of my 3rd grader's colorful and ethereal versions of the famous work.

product endorsement friday

i read about a new "dry shampoo" that suave was making a few months ago. i tried walgreen's and several other drugstores and couldn't find it anywhere. bumble and bumble makes one that is supposed to be great but i was looking for the bargain version. i read about the new suave product again this morning on a random blog. the girl gave it rave reviews. she said that she usually has to wash her hair every day. occasionally she can skip a day and rely on dirty, ponytail hair. now she can go up to 4 days without washing. sold.

it was this version.

i ran to walgreen's this afternoon and they had a different version, the suave keratin infusion dry shampoo.
got it, tried it, love it! my 2nd day hair looked freshly washed at the roots, sans any oiliness. and it smells so good! this is going to transform my daily morning routine in a monumental way. and give my hair a break from washing and blowdrying so often.

tgif and cheers to less time wasted on the hair!

instant fun

our anniversary was december 27th. it's hard to think of a gift for your significant other...2 days after christmas. so we waited a few days. and then we bought each other the iphone 4s on new year's day. happy anniversary/new year's to us!

i have been using the iphone 3 for the past 3 1/2 years. the at&t guy didn't even bother to hold back the laughter when i pulled it out of my purse for the upgrade. the last time i purchased a phone it took almost an hour. it was such a pain and that i avoided the process as long as i could. as a result, i have missed out on all the latest and greatest stuff and suffered with my old phone. i love my new phone.

so here is another find. again, not a new one. but new for me because it's so much more fun with the iphone 4s. i missed too many great photos in new york because the camera on my old phone was so crappy and every day, at 3:00 on the nose, my phone would die.

here are 2 random photos from a wednesday afternoon at school.
