life...

about 3 weeks ago i got exposed to poison ivy or poison oak or poison something. i have never had a reaction to any of these poisons in my life. i have even bragged about not being allergic to poison ivy. i noticed it on a thursday afternoon and by saturday, i needed a shot of something to keep me from clawing my legs to death. we had our best friends from atlanta coming for the evening and i knew i needed to remedy this quickly so that i could enjoy our saturday night together. in the midst of my hurrying around and getting things ready for them, wil offered to drive me urgent care. i dropped everything. all i could think of was "trip to urgent care: 25.00, shot of cortisone: 75.00, prescription of prednisone: 10.00, wil driving me: priceless. for everything else, there's mastercard." that is all i can say about that for now... the allergic reaction has lingered and is still present. another trip to urgent care, another shot, and another round of steroids later, and i am still recovering. my last round of medicine ended on sunday and it seems, so did my world. i was skeptical about taking any type of steroid (hence the need for round 2...i quit the first prescription after reading about all the horrifying side effects). nothing happened other than the constant itching stopped. a good thing. but when round 2 of the medicine was over, i felt like i was having an out of body experience. none of this is really that interesting but it's important because pb came to the rescue on Tuesday evening and cooked the best dinner he has ever made for me. he planned, sought cooking advice, shopped and then grilled this for me.
halibut with a cilantro, lime butter that he made to melt on top, smashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. all because he knew i had had the worst 2 days ever and couldn't give any reason why. that's when you know you have a best friend...because i was not being very nice. we are already planning to cook this again for some friends. it was that good. despite the roller coaster steroid ride, we have managed to snap some bright moments over the past week. if you follow me on instagram, sorry for the duplicates. these are blooming in our yard. i have never had pink hydrangeas so i am amazed.
we found these at the antique mall on saturday. the first finds in a search to fill up the forgotten space under the coffee table.
and my favorite new nail color by nars. seen here on em.
so with that, i would like to say thank you to pb for being so patient with the poison ivy. you are the best.

5 little birds

here are some fun works in progress from art class today. loved watching the uses of colors, brushstrokes, and the excitement children express when given only primary colors, white, and a blank canvas. and we painted on easels today which was a huge hit. happy may 2nd! (although these do remind me of cinco de mayo)
