lucky to know you

so we have successfully survived two back to back weekends of fun, old friends, and a lot of great times. it is the start of our fall break today and i am so ready for it. i need a few days of complete nothingness and low key time at home with family and close friends. anticipating a fire on the patio tonight and a chance to decompress. i do love fall but it seems as though the air of nostalgia can hang a little heavy at times. i know i lean toward the nostalgic side anyway, but let the temperatures cool down and the leaves start to change, and i jump head first into it.

monday morning i finally got my new laptop at school. i have been asking for one for 4 years. it has arrived and it seems like christmas. but now my efficient ocd side is colliding with my wistful nostalgic side. can you say gemini? i want everything on there from my old computer, cleaned up and organized. so that means sifting through music, photos and saved emails. i am on track with this process and then i'll get caught up listening to old play lists that i made over the past 5-6 years. i think music tugs at me more than old photos at times. i can remember exactly where i was, what struggle i was facing, what excitement i was feeling or what my state of mind was at different times of life just by listening to so many of these songs. one labeled,"october '06", is a favorite and very fitting for reminiscing. then there are photos to sort...and i see how much wil's face has matured in just one year...and how tall em has gotten in such a short time. where is it going?

last night as i was walking around the block and pb was playing wall ball with em in our driveway, i thought, these are the days we need to remember. big weekends and big plans are great. they give us something to look forward to and some great memories to share. but the crisp tuesday evening in october, with our pumpkin lights on the porch, the cat running around the yard, and pb and em yelling over a game...these are the times to cherish. where was wil during all of this? he is 14, so he "took the night off" to "chill" upstairs...
