oh how we lovvvve birthday cake!

i spent tuesday in atlanta with one of my best friends in the whole world. it was her birthday and we had missed getting together for mine in june so we celebrated both birthdays on the 12th. after all of the working we have been doing the past few weeks, i was so excited and looking forward to spending the day in atlanta with her. we had the best time so here is a brief recap!

we met at her house and went to jct kitchen for lunch. add this to my list of favorites. (check it out out here.) i wish i had more photos because it is just the kind of place i could steal ideas from all day long. we walked in and saw this herb arrangement on the bar.
it reminded me of the arrangement of pots at our back door. so i am going to add more herbs at some point!

we were seated and ordered a glass of this wine which i am now on the hunt for in rome. i am not typically a chardonnay fan. however, i learned that this particular one is aged in a stainless steel drum rather than oak. so it has a clean taste that is not buttery or too oaky.

and we had to have these parmesan fries as an appetizer since we were celebrating birthdays...

for lunch we had a salad with shrimp and avocado that had the most amazing vinaigrette. we are going to have to figure out how to make it. happy birthday lunch!

as we were leaving the restaurant, i spotted another arrangement. i knew pb would appreciate this because he loves stacking firewood for his fire pit. this photo is for him.

we stayed in this area for a brief bit of shopping. our first stop was star provisions. i feel like i have died and gone to heaven in here.

i bought this sign for our back porch. it does have a more welcoming "come in. we're open" on the other side.

we also visited ann mashburn and i finally got to meet her in person. she and her husband, sid, have just launched a new website so visit them here. i have posted about her store several times here and here.

we also stopped in the new jonathan adler store and the new anthropologie. both had so many fun things to see. (a great find at anthro that i will post later.) we headed back to her house to split our birthday cupcake that i brought from honeymoon bakery. it had just the right amount of icing!

i want to say how much i enjoyed our day and loved all my bday gifts. and remember this ring? i loved it. it was one of my presents, along with some adorable spice jars and this book. i have a night at home alone tonight so i am going to pour a glass of wine and read it. cannot wait! happy bday pmh!

  4. The Wood Planks in the first Star Provisions Photo is similar to the ones my husband makes out of our Christmas Tree trunks each year. I love them! I use them as a pedestal for my Ikebana Flower arrangments - among other things. He also makes coasters out of the smaller branches to give as gifts on special occasions throughout the year - great way to recycle a tree:)
